Believe it or not, the closest grocery store is on the island, Tom Thumb, about 1 mile away.  They have basic staples, milk, bread, eggs, water, and they make a good cup of coffee.

Publix, right over the Brooks Bridge on Miracle Strip Parkway, is about 2.5 miles away on the right hand side.  It is a typical grocery store with everything from in-store pharmacy to baked goods, beer and wine.

We tried out Bon Appetit French Bakery after hearing good things about it.  We had their tuna salad sandwiches three times while we were here.  The portions are generous.  They serve seriously delicious pastries, not a vast variety, but what they have is delish!

For fresh fish, we go to Gulf Seafood, on highway 98, going towards Mary Esther.  It is authentically fishy smelling, but you see the fish of the day up close and personal.  Sometimes they have a fresh bucket of crabs in the corner on the floor.  However the fish were swimming in the gulf early that morning.

Certified Organic

If you are planning to stay for at least a week and “certified organic” produce is the thing for you, check out the Off the Vine Produce website and get on their mailing list.  They send out periodic updates on what’s fresh, specials, and other interesting tidbits.  You can order one of their produce boxes to pick up on your way to the beach!

Farmers Markets Around Fort Walton Beach – I haven’t been to any of these places on this page, but I’m going to check at least one of them on an upcoming trip.  I’ll post a review then.
